TREASURER’S ASSISTANT
Responsible to: Treasurer
Requirements: Member of Salem Mennonite Church or a professional, bonded bookkeeper.
Term of Office:Elected by the congregation for a 3-year term staggered with the Treasurer’s term.
Responsibilities:
Work together with treasurer to carry out the tasks assigned to the treasurer. The assistant is responsible for some of the routine day-to-day tasks. Some of the tasks performed by the treasurer’s assistant under the supervision of the treasurer include:
1. Collect, count and deposit all offerings and other receipts.
2. Communicate offering totals in the bulletin and budget reports in the church newsletter.
3. Keep records of individual contributions as needed and issue receipts to donors where required for tax deductibility.
4. Prepare checks for authorized disbursements and mail or distribute same after checks are signed by treasurer.
5. Record checks and receipts in check register or journals.
6. Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis.
7. Other tasks as worked out mutually between the treasurer and assistant.
The exact division of duties between the treasurer and the assistant will be mutually agreed upon depending on the preferences and strengths or abilities of the individuals involved. It may be that the assistant could also be responsible for payroll and payroll reports, depending on training and experience.
