CHURCH LIBRARIAN/LIBRARY COMMITTEE

Responsible to:     Leadership Board


Membership:        Church Librarian, Assistant Librarian, two committee members


Term of Office:     Assistant Librarian elected by the congregation to a 2-year term,

                              becomes Librarian for an additional 2-year term; committee members

                              are elected by the congregation for a 2-year term, one to be elected

                              each year.


Responsibilities:    Provide materials to supplement the program of the church; provide a

                              variety of informational and recreational materials for all age groups.


The Church Librarian's specific responsibilities include:


1.  Call meetings of the committee as necessary.


2.  Order selected books and purchase supplies.


3.  Submit annual budget requests for the church library.


4.  Direct and work with the Library committee in the following:

     a.  Form policies for the church library (types of materials to include, loan periods, etc.


     b. Select new books and other material; make decisions to accept or refuse gifts/loans

         to the collection.


     c.  Catalog materials according to the established classification system and process

          them for loan.


     d.  Assist in selecting and checking out materials to church attendants on Sunday

          morning.


     e.  Check in and shelf returned materials.


     f.  Publicize and encourage use of library materials.


     g.  Send out reminders for overdue materials.


     h.  Maintain the collection on the shelves in proper order; repair damaged materials

          when possible; withdraw those lost, beyond repair, or no longer relevant.
