CHURCH CHAIRPERSON

Responsible to:Congregation


Term of Office:Elected by the congregation for a 2-year term


Responsibilities:Facilitate congregational decision-making and assure that the actions and assignments made by the congregation, Leadership Board and Finance Committee are carried out. Serve as the corporate administrative officer for the congregation.


1.Congregational Agenda:

a.Organize agenda and chair Finance Committee, Leadership Board and congregational business meetings.


b.Provide leadership in carrying out the plans and directives of the Council, Board and

      congregation.


c.Assist in filling staff and committee vacancies as needed and in the resolution of organizational problems.


2.Business Concerns:

a.Represent the congregation to Corporations, businesses and governmental entities as may be appropriate and as directed the Finance Committee.


b.Sign corporation and other legal and business documents as head officer.


c.Assure that legal and organizational requirements of the corporation are fulfilled.


d.Assure that adequate liability insurance is carried by the congregation.


3.Pastor-Congregation Accountability:

Serve with the Chair of the Pastoral Elders to implement the pastor-congregation accountability.


4.Pastoral Review:

a.Provide leadership in the review of the pastor/s' job performance and job descriptions and, in consultation with the pastor/s, make appropriate revisions to be submitted to the Leadership Board and the congregation.


b.Provide leadership in the term evaluation of pastoral staff.


5.Staffing:

Assure adequate staffing of the church office secretary and church custodian positions as needed in consultation with the Finance Committee and other church officers and staff.


Note: Interviewing and hiring of secretarial staff may be carried out by a pastor.
