CHILDREN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT/ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT

Responsible to:     Pastoral Elders


Membership:        A Superintendent and an Assistant Superintendent


Term of Office:     The Superintendent is elected by the congregation to a 1-year term;

                              The Assistant is elected by the congregation to a 1-year term.

                                (To promote a smooth transition of leadership, it is recommended that
                               the previous Superintendent assume the position of Assistant Superintendent in
                               the forthcoming year.)

                           

Superintendent Responsibilities:    Provide leadership in the planning and implementation of the      
                                                    Preschool through Middle Sunday School programs.


1.  Appoint Teachers and Substitutes for Preschool through Middle School classes.
     Recognize/provide dedication of teachers in designated September Worship service


2.  Encourage teacher participation in educational training and/or spiritual renewal opportunities.
     Inform full-time teachers of yearly $40 scholarship available.


3.  Support teachers by providing vision, establishing goals, and addressing concerns through
     consistent communication.


4.  Prepare yearly Sunday School Roster.


5.  Select the curriculum and order materials quarterly through *MennoMedia. Take supply
     inventory yearly and purchase classroom supplies as needed.
Purchase Bibles for incoming
     Kindergarteners and Story Bibles for incoming Preschoolers to be presented in designated  
     September Worship service. Submit invoices for payment and receipts for reimbursement to     
     Treasurer.


6.  Distribute new materials and collect used materials for recycling.

7.  Prepare and clean classrooms yearly. Alert Facilities Committee of need for
    
maintenance/repairs. Maintain order in Children’s Sunday School storage cabinets.


8. 
Cover classroom bulletin boards with fresh butcher paper yearly. Decorate hallway
    
bulletin board yearly.


9. 
Designate Mennonite Missions Network giving project yearly. Collect offerings and submit
    
monies to Treasurer. Distribute Giving Banks to new students. (Note: banks are available free
     through MMN during January 1-March 31 each year.)


10.  Provide *musical resources for teachers. Coordinate special performances
      (i.e. Christmas, Easter, etc.)


11.  Purchase treats for children to receive following Christmas Program in December.


12.  Submit annual budget request for [512] Children’s Education/Nursery Supplies and
       Expenses.


13. Function as a member of Leadership Board as able.

Assistant Superintendent Responsibilities:    Provide support to Superintendent as needed. Oversee Nursery         
                                                                        operation and schedule of care.

1.  Communicate with Superintendent regarding delegation of responsibilities detailed above.

2.  Prepare Nursery Childcare Schedule for Weekly Worship Services. Solicit volunteers as needed
    and notify Church Secretary of changes.

3.  Communicate and coordinate MYF/parent service in nursery with MYF leader.

4.  Change and launder crib sheets monthly or as needed.

5.  Wash and organize toys monthly or as needed. Remove broken/dangerous items weekly.

6.  Purchase items needed to maintain optimal functionality of nursery. Submit receipts to
    Treasurer for reimbursement.

7.  Alert Facilities Committee of need for repairs/maintenance.
